Kuwait Finance House-Bahrain (KFHB) received a high-level delegation from Brunei led by H.E. Pehin Dato Suyoi Haji Osman the Minister of Development and the Deputy Chairman of Brunei Monetary, during their recent visit to Bahrain. The aim of the Brunei delegation visit to the Kingdom was to gain knowledge from experienced financial institutions who have contributed towards the growth in the field of Islamic Banking and use this knowledge to support the efforts of Brunei in developing their own Islamic Finance Industry. It is noted that Brunei recently launched a series of measures and laws aiming to promote the Islamic Finance Industry. Mr. Abdulhakeem Alkhayyat, the Managing Director and CEO of KFH-Bahrain welcomed H.E. the Minister and his accompanying delegation at their headquarters along with Executive Managers and Senior Officials from the Bank. One of the opening points on the agenda was an in-depth presentation made by representatives of the Bank on how the Islamic finance industry was developed in the Kingdom and how it could be further developed in the future. The presentation was in the context to transfer of the knowledge gained in Bahrain to the banks in Brunei. Following the presentation a discussion was held between H.E. the Minister of Development and Mr. Alkhayyat on various topics related to KFH-Bahrain’s experience in the Islamic banking sector and the importance of Brunei adopting an active role in the industry. Further discussions were held about mutual opportunities and the prospects of cooperation within this this field. During the meeting, Mr. Alkhayyat commented "With the growing role of the Islamic banking industry in the global economy and its increasing contributions in the support of counties and their provision of job opportunities, it is essential that nations should provide an appropriate investment environment and competent legislative frameworks in order to attract Islamic financial institutions. The Islamic industry has the ability to support the growth of the economy via its infrastructure and further to strengthen its financial sector. There has been much talk recently about the efforts of Brunei to develop the Islamic financial industry and how it will strengthen its role in the economy. As one of the leading banks in this field, we are pleased to cooperate with the Sultanate of Brunei’s Ministry of Development and their vision and provide them with our profound knowledge to support the growth of this sector." Mr. Alkhayyat concluded by wishing the Minister and his Delegation a pleasant and fruitful visit in Bahrain and reemphasized the willingness of cooperation to support the mission in developing Brunei’s Islamic Finance Industry.
